Le feu qui a détruit une partie de la ville de Fort McMurray avait ravagé une superficie de 101 000 hectares vendredi matin.
Le feu a poursuivi son chemin vers le sud-est jeudi durant la nuit pour atteindre Anzac, l’une des zones qui étaient toujours à risque. Le secteur a heureusement été en majorité épargné, a indiqué la première ministre de l’Alberta, Rachel Notley.
Le vent devait toutefois changer de direction vendredi pour pousser le brasier vers des espaces boisés du nord-est et loin des communautés.
Par ailleurs, un premier convoi de sinistrés qui s’étaient réfugiés dans un camp au nord de Fort McMurray s’est dirigé vers le sud vendredi matin.

Près de 25 000 personnes doivent être ramenées au sud de la municipalité à cause du danger imminent de propagation des flammes. Jeudi, environ 7000 d’entre eux ont été transférés vers Edmonton et Calgary.
Des 15 000 personnes toujours réfugiées au nord, 5500 devaient être déplacées par voie aérienne, tandis que 500 véhicules devaient prendre la route vers le sud.
La Gendarmerie royale canadienne (GRC) devait escorter des convois de 50 voitures à la fois sur l’autoroute 63 qui traverse Fort McMurray et qui est le seul accès terrestre vers le sud, pour veiller à ce que l’opération soit sécuritaire.
Des stations d’essence d’urgence ont été mises en place dans des zones sécuritaires sur le long de l’autoroute 63. De l’eau et de la nourriture devaient également être distribuées aux automobilistes.
«Il n’est pas sécuritaire de retourner à Fort McMurray et ce pour encore plusieurs jours, a indiqué Rachel Notley. S’il vous plaît, n’essayez pas d’y retourner avant que les autorités déclarent qu’il est sécuritaire de le faire.»
Une enveloppe de 100 millions $ pour les évacués
La première ministre de l’Alberta a annoncé vendredi que le gouvernement fournirait une aide d'urgence de 100 millions $ auprès des 80 000 personnes qui ont été évacuées. Un montant de 1250 $ sera remis par adulte et 500 $ sera remis par enfant dans les prochains jours.
«Nous espérons que la crise sera maîtrisée le plus rapidement possible», a indiqué la ministre des Affaires municipales, Danielle Larivée.
«Les choses s’améliorent un peu»
Le chef des pompiers de Fort McMurray, Darby Allen, a tenu à faire une mise à jour dans la nuit de jeudi à vendredi.
«Nous sommes encore là, nous nous battons encore, les choses s’améliorent un peu dans la ville», a-t-il déclaré, spécifiant que les pompiers tentaient toujours de protéger le plus de biens possible.
D’ailleurs, Environnement Canada prévoit d’autres rafales de vent à 40 km/h en mi-journée vendredi dans la région de Fort McMurray. Par contre, la température s’annonce plus clémente avec un mercure oscillant autour de 18 degrés Celsius.
À plus long terme, on annonce une journée encore ensoleillée samedi, mais 30 % de probabilités d’averses sont prévues pour dimanche et lundi. L’avis sur la mauvaise qualité de l’air est toujours en vigueur.
Zones à risque
Anzac et Gregoire Lake Estates sont toujours des zones à risque, a confirmé la municipalité régionale de Wood Buffalo tard jeudi. Ces municipalités ainsi que Fort McMurray First Nation ont d’ailleurs été évacuées rapidement dans la nuit de mercredi à jeudi puisque le feu se dirigeait dangereusement vers elles. Le secteur de Stone Creek fait aussi partie des territoires menacés.
Les autorités ont aussi indiqué que les services des incendies s’activaient à protéger le secteur de Birchwood Trails qui n’avait pas encore été touché par les feux de forêt.
Les sinistrés de Fort McMurray ne pourront pas rentrer chez eux avant «quelques jours», a réitéré la première ministre de l’Alberta, Rachel Notley.
Une compagnie pétrolière menacée
L’entreprise Athabasca Oil Corporation a suspendu ses activités à son site de Hangingstone puisque le brasier se trouvait jeudi après-midi à 5 km de ses installations.
Tous ses employés non essentiels ont été évacués et le processus pour fermer le site était en cours. L’entreprise prévoyait que le tout soit terminé en soirée.
Rappelons que le feu de forêt dévastateur a commencé tranquillement dimanche avant de prendre une ampleur catastrophique et incontrôlable mardi. L’état d’urgence a été déclaré mercredi par le gouvernement albertain.
