Des foyers d'incendie de la région de Fort McMurray sont toujours hors de contrôle et «la situation reste imprévisible et dangereuse» en raison des températures élevées pour la saison et des vents, a affirmé samedi Ralph Goodale, ministre canadien de la Sécurité publique.
«Cela reste un feu énorme et dangereux hors de contrôle», a-t-il dit en indiquant que 1560 km2 avaient été dévastés depuis le début de l'incendie dimanche dernier, soit 50% supplémentaires en moins de 24 heures.
«Il y a une prévision que si l'incendie continue de progresser à ce rythme, il pourrait doubler aujourd'hui» en superficie par rapport à vendredi, a relevé M. Goodale.
«Il semble que la météo à Fort McMurray et dans la région restera malheureusement propice» aux incendies samedi avant un changement dans les prochains jours, a-t-il dit lors d'une conférence de presse télévisée.

Avec la direction des vents et la progression des feux vers l'Est, «il n'apparaît pas de danger imminent» pour d'autres secteurs résidentiels, a-t-il ajouté.
Le ministre s'est félicité que, par chance, aucune victime directe des incendies ne soit à déplorer à l'exception «des accidents mortels de la route» connectés à cette situation.
Deux jeunes filles ont en effet trouvé la mort dans un accident en milieu de semaine, lorsque leur véhicule se trouvait pris dans le flot des personnes fuyant les feux à la sortie de Fort McMurray.
Environnement Canada annonce 30% de probabilité de pluie dimanche et de la pluie au courant de la semaine, mais samedi le temps était «extrêmement sec» à Fort McMurray, selon Ralph Goodale, ministre fédéral de la Sécurité publique.
«On fait toujours face à un feu énorme et hors de contrôle», a indiqué le ministre en point de presse samedi matin, précisant que les vents avaient pris une direction inattendue et que le feu brûlait des deux côtés de l’autoroute.
Par ailleurs, le transport des sinistrés a repris samedi matin au milieu d'un épais nuage de fumée.
