Les transcriptions des discussions entre Omar Mateen, auteur de la tuerie dans un club gai d'Orlando, et le FBI sont rendues publiques.
Au début d'un de ses appels, Mateen indique qu'il pose ses gestes au nom de son Dieu.
Il s'identifie aussi clairement comme l'auteur de la fusillade.
Dans un autre extrait, Mateen est questionné par un négociateur au téléphone.
«Vous savez déjà ce que j’ai fait», répond le tireur.
L’homme a été tué par la suite pendant l’assaut des policiers. Il a fait 49 victimes.
Un officiel a dit en conférence de presse que la divulgation des appels avait pour but de donner aux citoyens une meilleure idée du déroulement des événements et une vision plus claire des informations que les policiers avaient avant de pénétrer dans le Pulse.
Selon lui, il ne faut pas réévaluer les décisions prises par les policiers cette journée-là. «Des vies ont été par leurs actions», a-t-il souligné.
Questionné sur le temps de réponse des forces de l’ordre, un officier de la police d’Orlando a souligné que la responsabilité de ces crimes incombait au tireur, et au tireur seulement.
